This video, first shown in the early days of Big Island Television, features Kona Coffee farmer Miyoshi Morimoto. A true pioneer of the industry, he invented much of his own equipment and methods used in producing coffee from seed to processed bean. He shares his story of Issei (first-generation Japanese immigrants), Nisei (second-generation Japanese-Americans born on coffee farms), and Sansei & Yonsei (third and fourth-generation Japanese-Americans), who continue to farmlands cleared and planted by their ancestors. This fascinating look back is a poignant and inspiring story of sheer determination and hard work.
